The Believers became known as Shakers because of the trembling, whirling and shaking that affected them during worship services. Well, when a group came to America, they settled in Pittsfield, MA. Their history, influences and culture can be scene everywhere. The Hancock Shaker Village is one of the most interesting tourist attractions in Massachusetts. Unlike the Quakers who settled in New England, the Shakers did not shun modern customs. They were very progressive for their time. If you visit their 18th century village, there is plenty to see and experience. Of course the Visitors Center and Museum Store presents you with all you need to know.

If you want more information about other Massachusetts tourist attractions, visit our website: United States Tourist Attractions.com

A New Mexico Tourist Attraction with spicy hamburgers!

Our series of posts about great places to find the best hamburgers in the United States continues. This is a top Connecticut tourist attraction! This third generation family business is the first hamburger restaurant in the United States and is considered one of the best. Their burger is served just like the old days on white bread with no ketchup or mustard. They even use the same grills that have been in use in some sort since 1895. They have predicted that this summer will be the busiest summer for US travel in history. They expect that over 328 million leisure trips are expected in the US this summer alone. The following list is what they predict will have the largest bottlenecks:

The Oregon coast
Tidewater region of Virginia
Maryland/Delaware shore
Branson, Mo.
Outer Banks, N.C.
Cape Cod, Mass.
New Jersey shore
Napa Valley, Calif.
Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish Country
Catskill Mountains region in New York
Pocono Mountains/Lake Wallenpaupack, Penn.
Provo Canyon, Utah
Yosemite National Park, Calif.
Asheville, N.C.
Sun Valley, Idaho
Lake Tahoe Area, Nev.-Calif.
Lake Winnipesaukee, N.H.
Yellowstone National Park, Wyo.-Idaho-Mont.
Presque Isle State Park, Penn.
Acadia National Park, Maine
White Mountains, N.H.
Lake George, N.Y.
Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Whitewater region, Idaho
The Hamptons, Long Island, N.Y.

If any of these destinations are in your plans, expect some delays. If you can change plans and maybe visit in the fall, you might be better off. The US is bursting at the seams with tourist attractions so there should be no way you wont find somewhere to take the kids. Patience is the key and expect that if you think a particular attraction is worth seeing, then many other people will feel the same way.

Use the United States Tourist Attractions Exclusive Directory of tourist attractions to find a tourist attraction this summer...

Visit the Chinese Forbidden City in Texas?

Is it possible to visit the Chinese Forbidden City without going to China? People come from all over the United States to view this oddity. The signs at the edge of town proudly proclaim "Alliance, Home of Carhenge". Of course the local Best Western sells carhenge souvenirs.

While your crossing the country, and if you cant get enough "Stonehenge" culture, there is always the Stonefridge in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Yes, you guessed it, 200 refrigerators arranged in a dusty field. The sign nearby reads "From the Stone Age to the Appliance Age".

Of course, we can't leave out Foamhenge, Stonehenge built out of foam on the west side of Rt. 11 near the Natural Bridge Zoo, 1 mile north of Natural Bridge, Virginia. Probably a 25 minute drive from downtown Chicago. Ray Kroc first opened for business there on April 15, 1955. An exact replica of the first restaurant is there along with the McDonald's Museum. The ground floor exhibits original fry vats, milkshake "Multi-mixers," soda barrels and grills, attended to by a crew of male mannequins in their original 1950s uniforms. There are red and white tiles from the original restaurant, and string ties worn by employees from the '50s to the early '70s. McDonald's corporate headquarters are also in nearby Oak Brook, as is Hamburger University (HU) where the McDonald's managers are trained to run the restaurants. He is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetary along with his wife Mary and three of his four sons. The other son is buried in Arlington, VA. His tomb has a 117-foot tall granite tower which is visible from anywhere in the area. Lincoln's tomb attracts visitors from all over the world, some of whom bring flowers as a tribute. As you drive up, you will see giant oak trees against gently rolling hillsides. His tomb features the famous bronze Lincoln statuary. It's worth a visit just to see this sculpture. Tourists often stop to rub the nose of this beautiful bronze bust at the entrance. Inside the tomb, you see bronze statues and excerpts from some of Lincoln speeches. A circular hallway leads to the marble burial chamber where Secretary Stanton's famous words command your attention: "Now he belongs to the ages." A red marble marker stands above the area where Lincoln's coffin lies. His body actually rests below the floor in a steel and concrete-reinforced vault. If you visit at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evenings from June through August, you can see a flag-lowering ceremony enacted by volunteers in Civil War uniforms.

Find other great tourist attractions by visiting our site: United States Tourist Attractions.com and tell us about your favorite travel sites and we might include your post in our blog.

Biograph Theatre, A Rich in Tradition Chicago Landmark

The Biograph Theatre on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago is best known by Chicagoans as the place where John Dillinger was shot and killed in 1934. The theatre is supposedly haunted (by Dillinger himself). I used to visit the Biograph back in the 70's when it played mostly 2nd run movies and midnight showings of the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show. They had the seat in which Dillinger was sitting in the night the Lady in Red gave him up to the feds painted white. Dillinger sat right near the side exit in case you were wondering. It has changed ownership several times since then and is currently being renovated for a theatre group to move into. For those interested in visiting the historical locations in Chicago, the Biograph is worthy of a look. It's just a few blocks north of where the famous St. Valentine's Day Massacre took place.

For other Chicago attractions, check the exclusive directory in United States Tourist Attractions .com. Next time you are looking for imbiding tourist attractions in San Francisco's Chinatown, you must stop and have a drink at Mr. Bings on the south edge of Chinatown not too far from the Transamerica pyramid.

Mr. Bings is located at 201 Columbus Ave. at the corner of Columbus and Pacific Ave. It is shaped like the letter V and is on of the best dive bars in the city. His home from the late fifties till his death in 1977. You can take a new audio guided tour with the voice of Lisa Marie as your tour guide. You get to see his living room, music room, kitchen dining room, parents room, pool room, TV room and the famous Jungle Room. Also on the tour is the racquetball building and the trophy building where you can see his enormous collection of gold records and memorabilia. The tour ends in the Meditation Garden where Elvis and the rest of his family is buried. Everything all along Elvis Presley Boulevard where Graceland is situated is pretty commercial. There are gift shops everywhere so if you come looking for souvenirs, you wont have to go far.

For this and other historic tourist attractions, check the exclusive directory in http://www.unitedstatestouristattractions.com/. Did you know that the word "Houston" was the first word spoken from the surface of the moon? "Houston, Tranquility Base here, the Eagle has landed". Of course you get to see Mission Control, the room that you see on TV all the time whenever there is anything to do with the space program. But the tour through the JSC is much more than that one room. You get to see and touch an actual lunar module, a lunar "car" and see real "moon rocks". The Johnson Space center is where the training for all the space travelers take place. You will also learn about future projects that NASA has planned. No rockets are launched there. They all launch from Cape Canaveral in Florida. But outside, layed on it's side is a real rocket that you can actually see close up. Over 15,000 civil servants and contractors work at the JCS, out of which only 110 are astronauts. Of course they have a great gift shop where you can pick up some souvenirs.

For this and other great adventures, check the exclusive directory in http://www.UnitedStatesTouristAttractions.com. The caves are home to about 130 forms of life. All of whom have adapted to cave life. It has in it's underground world more than 360 miles of explored and mapped caves and tunnels. That's approx. the distance from San Diego, CA to Las Vegas, NV! Geologists estimate that there are still over 600 miles of unexplored caverns. Of course you don't have to hike the entire 360 miles. The National Park Service has it conveniently laid out in short tours which range from 3/4 mile to the Wild Cave Tour which is over 5 miles. Most of the tours have restrooms and most sell out in advance. As it exists right now, it is three times the size of any other known cave in the world.

Do yourself a favor and enjoy one of the United States great thrills. The food was so authentic and well presented that I felt we were actually in Bombay. A Taste of India is it's name. The aroma that smacks you as you enter is heavenly. I dont know all the exotic spices that the Indians use to cook with but whatever they are, they combine perfectly for a wonderful experience. Of course the owners are Indian and speak with very thick accents, but because we are experienced Indian cuisine experts, we knew just what to order. If you've never had Indian food, please take my word for it and eat at an Indian restaurant as soon as you can. If you're anywhere near Wine Country Temecula, just north of San Diego, do yourself a favor and stop in. Its been there since 1914. Of course I’m referring to Wrigley Field. Home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916. Ironically, the Cubs have not won the World Series since they made Wrigley Field their home. Up until 1988, they didn’t even have lights. All the games had to be day games, the way God had originally meant baseball to be played. I spent many days sitting in the left field bleachers watching my beloved Cubbies lose game after game. But it didn’t matter because you were at Wrigley Field and that made it OK. Sitting in the sun, drinking beer and watching major league baseball players like Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, then later, Sammy Sosa and Kerry Wood. Tickets are a little harder to come by now but if you really want a chance to experience what real baseball is in a real baseball stadium, look no further than Wrigley Field.

To find other great Chicago area tourist attractions visit our website at United States Tourist Attractions.com. To give you some perspective it is basically a year round carnival on the water. There are things for people of all ages. There are the typical carnival things such as games, rides and food. However, at the Boardwalk, you will probably spend half of your time people watching. Let me tell you ther are some interesting folks that like to cruise around this place. It is a little hard to explain, but trust me once you've been there you would get my point. The thing I like the best is the carnival food. Not that it is that great, but it is the stuff you only get at these typs of locations. This would be a fun day trip, but I would leave this place by susnset. I don't think it is the safest. However, during the day it has all the sights, fun, ride and food. I think it is definitly worth a short drive to spend the afternoon at this carnival on the ocean front. The Statue is accessible from ferries in Battery Park. It is really hard to explain the patriotic feelings that engulf you as you first peek at the Statue across the water from Battery Park. Going over to the Statue is a whole other experience. There is a great museum dedicated to immigration in the Statues base. In my personal feelings viewing the Statue from Battery Park provides a better view of the Statue of Liberty, however, if you do this you don't get to see the museum and really how big the Statue is from the ground up. You can make a great half day trip to Battery Park, checking out the sights from food vendors to side shows. It is really a wonderful way to spend half a day. The festival was started to honor Valparaiso’s native Orville Redenbacher. It’s Valparaiso (which is only about an hour SE of Chicago) where Orville started his popcorn empire back in the 50’s. My dad was a fireman in Valparaiso back in the 50’s and 60’s and would tell us stories about this odd little man that would bring the firemen big bags of different kinds of hybrid popcorn to taste test different popcorn ideas that he had been working on. The festival was started to honor him. Until his health started getting the best of him, he was always the Grand Marshall of the Parade that is the highlight of the festivities. Orville is gone now but the tradition that was started back in the 70’s has grown into the regions top festival and one of the top 100 Annual Events in the US.

To find other great Indiana and Chicago area tourist attractions visit our web site at United States Tourist Attractions.com. Now don't get me wrong, Fremont street does not have all the glitz and glam of the strip. However, this Las Vegas Tourist Attraction brings you back to old Las Vegas. This is where it all started. Fremont Street covers a couple of blocks and most of the areas between the casinos is covered. The cover has a lit up display on the roof. It is a great place for some cheap cocktails to walk around and see some of original vegas. At Fremont you will find Binions Horsehoe (World Poker Championship), The Golden Nugget, etc. Fremont is great to spend a few hours to check it out and kill some time. Here you can also play on the worlds biggest blackjack table, kinda fun. Also, downtown here you also gwet some better playing odds. However, for nightlife, head back to the strip.

This message brought to you by United States Tourist Attractions.

Southern California Coast Tourist Attraction Fit for Royalty

The Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument, better know as Hearst Castle is the United States version of a royal European castle. If you ever saw the movie Citizen Kane, it was based on William Randolph Hearst’s life. He is the one that had the castle built for himself and his mistress. His wife preferred to stay in Los Angeles which was about 100 miles to the south. The castle is one of the largest of the approximately 5000 historic house museums in the US. It has 5 different tours that are available because of it’s enormous size. The castle and it’s surrounding support structures contain 56 bedrooms and 61 bathrooms, 41 fireplaces, and total 90,800 square feet. It also has the famous Neptune Pool and an indoor Roman Pool. During it’s heyday, Hearst welcomed political and Hollywood royalty to his place for a good time. He loved spirited conversation and would choose his guest list primarily by their conversational skills. Some of the guests included Charlie Chaplin, Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, Cary Grant, Harpo Marx, Winston Churchill, President Calvin Coolidge, Charles Lindbergh and Howard Hughes. Most of the Hollywood elite spent time there during the 20’s, 30” and 40’s.

To experience this spectacular destination, just head north from LA up the Coast Highway to San Simeon. Saratoga Srpings is a unique New York Tourist Attraction, due to the city being relatively uncrowded for about 11 months of the year. The other one month, the world famous Saratoga Springs horse track is open. During the time when the track is open rental properties, hotels and bed and breakfasts are full capacity and expensive. I have spent many summers in Saratoga and a lake front house is essential. The lake is wonderful with great fishing or water skiing. Due to the relatively wet nature of New York, bonfires are not a problem. Noting better than a brisk night and a bonfire overlooking the lake. Also, this area is rich with history dating back to the revolutionary war. There are battlefields and the like a short drive away that are amazing. All in all Saratoga Springs is a great place to relax and unwind only 3 hours north of New York City. It is truly an untapped New York Tourist Attraction. One of my favorite Missouri tourist attractions is Montauk State Park in the heart of central Missouri. This is one fabulous tourist attraction!

Offering some of the finest trout fishing in the Midwest, Montauk State Park is located at the headwaters of the famed Current River. The park's springs combine with tiny Pigeon Creek to supply 43 million gallons of water to the river each day. The cool, clear stream is an ideal home for rainbow trout, and the scenic valley is the perfect setting for camping, hiking and other outdoor pursuits.

Anglers descend on Montauk State Park from March 1 to Oct. 31 for the official trout season, and on winter weekends for a catch-and-release season. After a day of fishing, you can tour the park's trout hatchery, managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Early settlers first established Montauk as a self-sufficient community in the early 1800s. A gristmill, built in 1896, is open seasonally for tours.

Click here to learn about this beautiful little known Missouri tourist attraction. The trend in the NFL these days is to get a new stadium and the Denver Broncos football team was no exception. They had built Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium. A state-of-the-art football stadium that rivals any in the United States. Their old stadium was never intended for football games in the first place and had been built 45 years ago and just really wasn’t a great stadium in terms of amenities. The new stadium has so many, it takes a 2 hour guided walking tour just to touch on a few. The tour takes you down through the visiting team locker room (where a sign is located reminding the visiting players that they are at 5280 feet above sea level), the press boxes, media food courts, and finally down onto the field. All of the beer consumed in the stadium begins in one of eight large cooler rooms loaded from top to bottom with kegs of beer. The beer is sent via plastic tubes running throughout the stadium to the hundreds of refreshment stands conveniently spaced within the stadiums 7 levels. The new Invesco has exactly 2 seats more than the old stadium. The giant white Bronco that lives on the scoreboard is an exact replica of Silver, the Lone Rangers horse. All of the public art that is located outside the stadium on the stadiums grounds was paid for by selling off the seats of the old Mile High Stadium or paid for by a generous donation by the team owner Pat Bowlen. If you’re a football fan, take time to take the guided tour if you’re ever in Denver.

Visit our web site at United States Tourist Attractions.com to find other great tourist attractions. Not only is this new bar fun and exciting, it is outdoors 26 floors above another San Diego Tourist Attraction, Petco Park. Altitude is fun for people of all ages (over 21). The music they play is great and most of all Altitude is easy tp get to. The views from the 26th floor are awesome, over the bay, the rest of downtown and especially into the ballpark. I think you could watch the Padres game from the bar area. Anyway, if you are looking for something to spice up your trip to San Diego, check out Altitude, with great drinks and great music. The five different museums comprising the center are truly wonders in the world of art. The best time to go is on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. when traffic is low on the L.A. streets and many people are still at church. You will find a stool that Maria Antoinette sat on to brush her hair. The Grassy Knoll. Houston and Elm streets. The 6th floor. All of those evoke memories of one of the most important and tragic events in US history. Of course I refer to the JFK assassination. The events from 11/22/63 are all captured in vivid detail at the 6th Floor Museum in the famous Texas Schoolbook Depository. The museum chronicles the assassination and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. It consists of two full exhibits and all of the memorabilia from that fateful day in Dealey Plaza. Aside from the museum, you can walk around the plaza and stand where all the witnesses were and where Abraham Zapruder stood when he captured the entire event on his 8mm camera. Walking around the plaza was a strange event. I was very young at the time of the assassination and dont remember it first hand, but have studied it over the years. If you have any interest in one of the most important unsolved mysteries in the history of the US, you must visit Dallas in person and experience a walk through history.

Find other historical sites at United States Tourist Attractions.com and let us know about your favorite travel sites and we might include your post in our travel sites blog.

San Diego Tourist Attractions, a restaurant in San Diego

There are numerous San Diego tourist attractions . I have been there a dozen times. However, after a long day of visiting my favorite San Diego tourist attractions, there is no other restaurant to eat at other than Donovans Steakhouse. Donovans serves prime steaks and seafood, in a classic setting. The dark mohogany walls and red leather seats remind me of the classic steakhouses in Chicago. Although there are many great San Diego tourist attractions, I can honestly say, I can't wait to the end of the day for Donovans. Everything from the hand cut steaks, to the enormous lobster tails is perfection. Not to mention their world class service. Donovans probably should be a San Diego tourist attraction, but I will leave it as a great San Diego restaurant. This is a first class San Diego restaurant so proper attire is required. Trust me, and I don’t mean to put down the pizza from New York, California, Ohio or wherever. I’ve tried them all, but Chicago style pizza is head and shoulders above all the rest. I know that every big city claims to have the best, and I’m sure there are some good pizzas all over the United States. As everyone knows, the Chicago style pizza is the deep dish “Sicilian” style thick, full of ingredients and a crunchy tasty crust. It’s actually cooked in a deep pan, not on a flimsy cookie sheet (sorry New York). New Yorkers like to claim that their pieces are so big, you have to fold them over to eat them. Big deal. Anybody can take paper thin cardboard crust and sprinkle some cheese on it and here’s the big twist, fold it over! Wow. Not for me. Chicago pizza is eaten like a pie, with a fork like you’re supposed to. There are several top notch Pizza establishments in Chicago. Geno’s, Giordano’s, Lou Malnati’s, Uno’s and Pizzeria Due to name just a few. If you ever get a chance to visit Chicago, please eat at one of the Chicago style pizza places and you’ll discover like millions of Midwesterners did decades ago that the Chicagoans know what they are doing in the kitchen. Then go back to your Avacado, Basil and Feta cheese experiments in California or the cardboard “it takes two hands and fold over to let the grease run off style” in New York. Many people search for Italian restaurants in St. Louis by going to the Hill which is the Italian restaurant district. One of my favorite Italian restaurants is John Mineo's in West St. Louis County.

John Mineo's has been in business for over 30 years. Although their menu has changed over the years, their top notch Sicilian food has not! John Mineo Sr., Anna Mineo and John Mineo Jr. are the primary chefs. John Sr. and Anna are first generation immigrants from Sicily. Their true old world cooking experience is one of a kind.

This great restaurant is located in Town and Country. It is a gourmet restaurant, so dress appropriately. The huge monument carved from granite on a hillside in South Dakota. The four American Presidents whose faces grace the mountain top are George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abe Lincoln. Each President possessed great leadership when our country needed it most. We all can look into their faces and gain inspiration and strength from these four men. From the moment you see them, you are drawn to them. It's hard to look away. This is one of the sites that everyone should experience in person. A photograph simply doesn't do it justice. The monument is open year round and is designated a National Memorial. Popular with picnickers and rock-climbers alike, the Chasm is believed to have its origin in the sudden release of dammed-up glacial melt water near the end of the last Ice Age, approximately 14,000 years ago.

Trails lead to a wide variety of rock formations, with such romantic names as The Corn Crib, The Coffin, The Pulpit, Lovers' Leap and Fat Man's Misery.

This is an excellent natural wonder to visit and easy to access from the Massachusetts turnpike. Click here to visit the State's Purgatory Chasm web site. Approximately 3000 maniacs attend this. The crowd consists of LSU Alumni, their families, and friends. It’s an event that has to be witnessed in person to be believed. It starts about 10:00 am. The first sign that you are entering something unique is the sea of purple and yellow (the LSU colors) of shirts, hats, flags, and blankets. All the time, a live Cajun band plays until late in the afternoon. The good time of drinking and enjoying the usual perfect weather highlights with the boiling of the crawfish. A giant truck equipped with huge boiling vats fresh cook the live crawfish, which are driven directly from Louisiana the day before. They are then put into 50 lb boxes which are distributed to the 10 person tables where they are dumped onto the middle. There are no utensils. Everyone just starts shelling them by hand and eating. For those of you that don’t know what crawfish are, they are very similar to shrimp. They are boiled along with corn and potatoes in a rich bath of Cajun spices. It is an unbelievable event and sells out every year. You can probably call the LSU Alumni Southern California Chapter for details on this annual event.

For more events in Southern California, please visit the United States Tourist Attractions.com website.

Petco Park

For anyone traveling to San Diego, in the next few months, take some time out to watch a baseball game at Petco Park. It’s the only point in the United States where you can literally stand in four states at one time, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. The point is located in the desert on the Navajo Indian Reservation. There is a visitor center, some Navajo arts and craft booths, picnic tables and portable toilets. Actually no one knows for sure. I’m talking about Sue, the largest, the most complete, and the best preserved Tyrannosaurus Rex ever unearthed in the world. There has only been 22 T. Rex partial skeletons ever found so the scientists don’t have enough specimens to compare to each other to discover if Sue is a boy or a girl. Sue has a permanent home in Chicago, IL at the Field Museum of Natural History. She was discovered in South Dakota in 1990 by Sue Hendrickson (notice her first name) quite by accident when the car she was riding in had a flat tire. Ms. Hendrickson decided to just look around at some interesting rocks while her friends changed the tire. Her little distraction ended up costing the Field Museum $8.3M. That’s how much they bought Sue’s 200 bones for. Sue is 42 feet long and 13 feet wide. Sue’s skull alone weighs 600 lbs. and has 58 teeth that range from 7.5” to 12” long! The scientists think Sue is about 67 million years old (give or take a week or so).

I have been going to the Field Museum since I was a little kid and our school would bus us there for a great day of fun and learning. Please don’t miss this important discovery if you ever have the chance to visit the Chicago area. You’ll never forget it. Many people don't realize that Guam is a U.S. Territory and the island uses the U.S. dollar as its currency. Guam has so many great dive spots, snorkeling spots and natural things to see we can't list them all here or in our directory.

One of our favorites places to visit is Talofofo Falls at the Southern end of the island. Talofofo is close to where Magellan landed in Guam. The falls of Talofofo are a great place to relax in a beautiful tropical setting. You can bring a picnic basket with you and swim in the fall pools or relax under the falls. We changed our plans slightly and headed to Silverton Colorado and the Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour. What a great idea because it turned out to be one of the coolest attractions that we visted on the whole trip. The tour starts with everyone putting on a big warm vinyl jacket. It's a good thing, because the mine is over 1/3 mile into the mountain and is never more than about 50 degrees inside. You sit in these little cars while you make the journey into the mountain. Eventually you make it to a big open room where they demonstarate the tools and machinery the miners actually used.

Our tour guide was quite knowledgable because he worked that mine back in the 80's. He taught us all the hand and flashlight signals that were used. When we got back out, they had a huge panning facility set up where with the price of the tour, you got to pan for gold as long as you wanted. Of course almost everyone finds a little gold. If you dont, they have it for sale in the little gift shop on your way out. It wasn't the fanciest or cleanest tour you could take, but it was one of the most memorable! Nope. The most interesting attraction to see is Alcatraz Island. Take the guided tour and you’ll learn so many facts about “The Rock” that they will stick with you forever. Not only do you see the “home” of Al Capone, Baby Face Nelson and “The Birdman” but they let you go inside one of the isolation cells in complete darkness to get the feel of what the prisoners actually felt. One thing that I always remember from the tour was a quote by the tour guide about the era when Alcatraz housed the hardest criminals of the time: “When you broke the rules in society you went to jail. When you broke the rules in jail you went to prison. When you broke the rules in prison, you go to Alcatraz.” Although there were very few sharks any where near the cold water in the bay surrounding Alcatraz, the very few times that one was actually caught, the guards made it very visible to the inmates. When Alcatraz was finally made into a prison, it had no vegetation on the island whatsoever. It was really all rock. They would transport the prisoners to one of the nearby islands and retrieve bags of dirt that they carried on their backs back to Alcatraz. I could go on and on but I can’t do the place justice. Trust me, book a tour next time you’re in or near San Francisco and you wont forget the experience. The farther away you get from border cities like San Diego and El Paso, the harder it seems to be to find Mexican food of substance. If you every find yourself on Route 44 (old 66) and you are passing through Springfield, Missouri there is a must stop Mexican food chain you must try.

Now I'm not going to say their food is authentic. But I will say it is the best tasting Mexican food I've had this side of the border. The seven store local chain is called Mexican Villa. Former students of Southwest Missouri State and other local colleges will tell you there is no better place to eat!

Try the location on National Street not too far from the Southwest Missouri State campus. The old orange vinyl seats will make you feel warm and snug. Unlike most traditional Mexican places, they don't serve salsa with their chips, just hot sauce. Their hot sauce is one of the best in the country. If you are brave enough, try their "Sancho enchiladas" style. This burrito like dish covered with a piles of enchilada sauce and layers of cheese is one of the most savory meals you'll ever eat. Not only do you get free samples, but seeing the operation and how the brewery is constructed is pretty cool. Also, how nothing in the beer making process is wasted is interesting to hear. Also, you will get to sample 1 day old beer, which beats the stuff in the store by a mile. For other brewery info in the United States, check out the brewery section of United States Tourist Attractions.com

Southern California Wine Country

I recently discovered the Southern California Wine Country in beautiful Temecula California. Temecula is only about an hour drive from both San Diego and Los Angeles. Not only did I discover some great tasting world class wine, but also found out that many of the 20 or so wineries have live entertainment and are Bed and Breakfasts as well! The Almond Champagne from Wilson Creek Winery is worth the drive even if that's the only winery you visit...

You can find out more information about the wineries in Southern California in the exclusive directory at United States Tourist Attractions.com

Welcome to our travel sites blog.

We are going to share interesting and unique travel sites every day.
